Brexit, where do we stand ?

UK has officialy left the EU since February 1st, 2020. The terms of the future relationship between UK and France, and more widely, between UK and UE are still under negotiations.

Until December 31st 2020 we are in a transition period and British citizens (and the members of their family) still have all their rights in France. Please note that the freedom of movement is currently impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Do the British citizens living in France need a residence permit?

From October 1st 2021 it will be mandatory for British citizens (above 18 years old) to hold a French residence permit. They can currently apply for a “withdrawal agreement” residence permit.

How to apply for a the “withdrawal agreement” residence permit ?

You arrive in France before December 31st 2020 : you can proceed via this online platform (please click on the link)

You arrive in France after December 31st, 2020 : you must submit your application at the Prefecture. The list of documents is available here.

Deadline : The online applications must be submitted before July 31st 2021.

You already have a French residence permit for « EU citizens » ? Those residence permits will no longer be valid for British citizen after October 31st 2021. You have to change your card before this date if you want to keep on residing in France. This is also available for the members of your family if they are third country nationals holding a residence permit linked to your nationality.
